ALASKA JEWELRY Gold nugget: Most of our gold nugget jewelry is found in its natural state, and its form is entirely the result of the primordial natural forces which produced it millions of years ago. Our nuggets are a unique natural artifact that assay out between 18k and 23k. One percent of the gold mined in the entire world is found as placer gold! Take home a piece of Alaskan History. Gold: Many of our local artisans work with this precious metal. To protect gold plated and gold jewelry surfaces, store separately. Wash gently when necessary and dry with a soft cloth. Silver: Many of our local artisans work with this precious metal. Sterling silver stays polished when worn often. To shine, use a silver polish and soft cloth. Store in a zip lock bag. Alaska Black Diamond: Hematite, known as Alaska's black diamond, has a high iron content and is a very useful mineral. It can appear as metallic grey, red grey to brown. It has been associated with Alaska since early Russian days. Today it is considered a token of friendship and faithfulness with calming and healing properties. Jade: Because of its hardness, jade must be cut with diamond and carborundum tools. Alaska has a large jade quarry in Kobuk, near Kotzebue, but a lot of jade used is from Canada. Jade is made into beautiful jewelry, carvings, bookends and clocks.
